How to Enable the Windows Aero in Windows 7

If you were looking for the best designed and most transparent Microsoft user interface then you can't escape Windpws Aero. Here's a hack to enable Windows Aero in Windows 7. But before you proceed with the steps keep a backup of your registry.

1. Click on the Start Menu and type “regedit” into the search box. When the program appears click to open the regedit.exe icon.
2. Locate the Key below
3. HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsDWM
4. Look to the pane on the right of the key hierarchy. Right click on the white area and select New > DWORD (32 bit) Value.
5. As the value appears name it UseMachineCheck.
6. Repeat and create 2 more DWORD Values, Blur and Animations
7. First double-click the value just created with the UseMachineCheck and enter 0 in the Value Data box. Do the same for Values Blur and Animations. Then click OK.
8. Now close the Registry Editor.
9. Open the Start Menu and type “cmd” into the search box, right-click on cmd.exe when the program appears in the search results. Now, select Run as Administrator from the drop-down.
10. As the Command Prompt opens type the commands below
• Net Stop uxsms – this command will stop the Desktop Windows Manager Session Manager
• Net Start uxsms– this command will restart it
11. Once you close the Command Prompt. Right click on the desktop and click on Personalize from the menu.
12. Click on the Window Color and Appearance in the Personalization Windows Aero the Color Scheme menu.

Locate and Access the USB Drive in Windows 7

The problem is when you plug in a thumb drive or external USB hard drive…nothing happens. You hear the USB sound but AutoPlay doesn’t run, and when you look in Computer you don’t see the drive. More than likely Windows named the drive to a letter that is already in use. 

1. To fix the problem right-click on Computer from the Start Menu or Desktop Icon, and select Manage.
2. In the Computer Management window, under Storage, click on Disk Management to see a list of drives connected to your machine.
3. You should be able to determine which one is the drive you’re trying to access by its size and format type. Here we’re trying to find a 4GB thumb drive. Right-click on the drive and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
4. Now click on the Change button…
5. You can select from a list of drive letters to rename it. Make sure it’s not one already in use or could be in use at some point. Pick a letter toward the end of the alphabet for best results.
6. Changed the drive from the letter “G” to Others, like "O" …
7. You will be prompted with a warning dialog making sure you want to change the drive letter…click Yes.
8. If you have AutoPlay enabled, you’ll see the familiar screen asking what you want to do with the drive.
9. You will also see it in Computer now and be able to access the files and programs from it.

That’s all there is to it! It’s definitely annoying when you plug in an external USB drive and Windows doesn’t give you access to it right away, but following these steps solves the issue.

How to fix System Restore is disabled by your system administrator

When we have problems in the system windows, system restore is one option to resolve the issue. But when we want to access a restore point, system restore is not active. Fix system restore Using Group Policy Editor

1. Type gpedit.msc in RUN or Start menu Searchbox and press Enter. It'll open Group Policy Editor.
2. Now navigate to:
   Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> System Restore
3. In right-side pane, make sure both "Turn off Configuration" and "Turn off System Restore" options are set to "Not Configured". If both or any of them is set to "Enabled", double-click on the option and set its value to "Not Configured".
4. Finish, it'll immediately enable System Restore in your system.

Fix system restore Using Registry Editor

1. Type regedit in RUN or Startmenu Searchbox and press Enter.
2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore
3. In right-side pane, if you see any of following 2 DWORD values, delete them:

• DisableConfig
• DisableSR
